Payments Processing Fees

Maintaining transparency in pricing is a core principle for me. With my background at PayPal, I hold a strong preference for uncomplicated payment structures. What do I mean by that?

If you've ever dealt with a merchant processing account through a traditional bank or processor, you're familiar with the convoluted and bewildering pricing. Deciphering their statements often requires a level of complexity that's akin to rocket science. Transaction prices can vary for each transaction due to factors like card type, product, and online vs. offline transactions.

In contrast, companies like PayPal, Stripe, Square, Braintree, and other innovative fintech firms chose to simplify matters by offering a straightforward pricing model. Their customers pay a standard 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction. This approach has withstood the test of time, and it aligns with Fitli's philosophy as well.

In the remainder of this post, I will be sharing our current payment processing fees and presenting the new payment processing fees that will be in effect when you are switched over to what we call Payments 2.0 on or about August 31, 2023.

Fitli Payment Processing Fees BEFORE cutover to Payments 2.0

If you visit our pricing page at www.fitli.com/pricing and scroll down, you can see our simple pricing. It's 2.9% + $0.30 per card transaction. There is a $20 fee for chargebacks (disputes) which are usually very rare. While not exactly a fee, the original fees paid for a payment transaction are not returned when a purchase is refunded to the customer. Lastly, we did charge an additional fee (of the same rate above) for a partial refund. This did not happen for full refunds. We only support card payments.

It will still be 2.9% + $0.30 per card transaction. The chargeback fee is increasing slightly to $25 per chargeback to align with the fee charged by the new processor. The original fees paid for a payment transaction will not be returned, consistent with the current approach. There will be no additional fees for partial refunds. There will be a minimum $5 fee per statement period (monthly).

Completely new payment methods are available with Payments 2.0

ACH (Bank Transfer) - We have put quite a lot of development effort towards being able to give you the option to allow your customers to pay you via ACH. Potential customers have been asking for this feature since our inception, and we are super excited to be able to offer it. There will be a monthly subscription fee of $5 which is really there to help us recoup some of the cost of building the feature and work on the next big thing. The processing fee will be 1.9% + $0.30 per transaction, which should be a great option for those looking to save over card pricing, especially for larger dollar transactions.

Point of Sale / Terminal - Another long-time request we've heard is for point-of-sale devices in order to be able to swipe cards in person easily. With this new feature, your customers can swipe cards and more. They can tap, swipe, and insert cards. They can also use their contactless payments via their phone, like Apple Pay. Similar to ACH, this feature can be unlocked with a $5 per month subscription. Processing card payments via the terminal are priced the same as above at 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction, and all other card-related fees apply.

Available terminals can be viewed by navigating to this page and scrolling down.
